Womens’ Sydney 7′s Rep – Bad Luck Em, Go Nelly!

Firstly - our commiserations to Emily Walpole who damaged her MCL at the Parramatta 7s while playing for the Sydney Rep squad over the weekend which will put her out for the next 3-4 weeks – we hope you make a swift recovery!

On  brighter note - Noella Green had a cracker and started the day playing on the Sydney Rep 2 side and after some impressive runs in the first two matches and an awesome intercept in the third, in her own half where she stole the ball from ACT and ran it the lenght of the pitch to score.  This brought some much needed attention to the Waverley player and she was moved to play for the Sydney Rep 1 side after impressing the coach (joining a number of Australia national team players who have just returned from the Hong Kong 7s) again she played hard and looked strong, breaking through the defence in a game against ACT 1s, making an impressive run taking the ball from the 22 all the way down the pitch, 3ft short of the try line she was tackled but managed to pop the ball off to another player to score.  Because of her outstanding performance at the Parramatta 7s Nelli has secured a place in the Sydney Rep 1 team going to Nationals on 13-15 April at Lane Cove.

This achievement has come after Nelli has shown great dedication to Waverley’s 7s team finding time to not only lead and coach the Warriors through an awesome summer of 7s but also committed to a tough training regime to get ready for the rep trials!  This commitment has paid off putting Nelli in the Sydney Rep 1 squad playing alongside some of Australia’s best female rugby players.  Nelli not only pushes herself to become the best she can be but she also inspires and strives to help others do the same and the Waverley Rugby Committee believe that it is with this winning attitude that our own Noella Green may well make it all the way to the Australia Squad, the whole team and Club are impressed and excited for her.

A great effort by Nelly & Emily – well done Girls!

Women, WAGs and Wine Evening

Last Saturday evening a group of women all connected with Waverley Rugby Club met up for a wine-tasting evening.

There were several of the current players from the women’s team, a few girlfriends of players from the mens’ teams, and a handful of friends or other associated ladies.

Fun was had by all, and it was a good opportunity to chat to different people who all want to be part of our great club, but in different capacities.

Big thanks to Mark Fowler from Chateau Tanunda who ran the tasting for us.

The Nightwatch Chardonnay Pinot Noir served on arrival was a great hit, and for $18 you really can’t go wrong if you are looking for a good sparkling wine without spending heaps of cash.

We tasted a further three whites and three reds from a variety of their ranges.

The Barossa Tower Shiraz was very enjoyable as a lighter red, and is currently available at Kemenys on Bondi Road for $16.99 a bottle, with the added bonus of 6 free if you buy 6!

Go get some while it lasts.
