PRE-SEASON HARBOUR CRUISE – March 10th 3pm – 6pm

Waverley Preseason Boat Trip – 10th March

The  summer is coming to an end and its time to start thinking about the season ahead. We have organised a preseason boat trip to make sure that everyone has some solid drinking experience before the season starts…  This is a great opportunity for everyone to get together prior to the preseason fixtures, meet this seasons coaching staff and have a great day on the harbour. The boat will be departing at 3pm from Double bay wharf (returning to same) on 10th March. The cost will be $100 per head including a BBQ and plenty of booze.

Spots are limited and going fast, if you are interested please contact Kenny Brown at [email protected]or on 0433133244 to reserve a spot.

Boom ba Boom – Pre-Season Training Is Here

PRE-SEASON STARTS NOW! Tonight 7.15pm – Waverley Oval 2.

People tend to use Eye of the Tiger as a bit of a fireup… but why? It’s got nothing on these kids…

Yehp that is pretty random. But if you’re like me, you’re probably sick and tired of summer TV, and keen to burn that summer fat. Hence the slightly bizarre link. Boom ba Boom…

Pre-Season Rugby Training – 7.15pm – Mondays and Wednesdays – Waverley #2

David “The Hit-man” Kavanagh & Nathan Ferguson will be putting the guys & gals through their paces this evening at Waverley Oval 2 in a bid to increase fitness levels across all the grades.

The season is now only six weeks away from the first trial game and nine weeks away from the first League game. So, if you’re wanting to play this Season now is a good time to get some fitness.

Training will continue every Monday and Wednesday night during February.

This is where to find us:

Information Regarding Round 1

Everyone that is wanting / intending on playing in Round 1 tomorrow, you are reminded that you MUST be registered if you wish to take the field.

Yehp, we’ll let you pull on your boots if you haven’t registered, but we won’t let you run on the field.

Registering is super easy, and only takes five minutes of your time. Simply head to our registration site at http://register.waverleyrugby.com.au/.

Why You Must be Registered to Play

Other than it being an ARU requirement, the main reason is Insurance. If you’re not registered, you’re not insured. If you’re not registered, your coaches / managers are not insured. If you’re not registered the Club is not insured. Put simply if the worst happens, we’re all stuffed.

Other more mundane reasons are, it allows your game time / tries (and you know you’ll be getting a few of those) / penalties / yellow cards / red cards / coaches points to be recorded.

It also gives us your contact details so we can inform you about any last minute changes, check your availability, follow you up if you’re injured and make you feel loved in general.

Plus there are a whole heap of other odds and ends that I can’t think of right at this moment. So pull your finger out and complete your registration now, otherwise no game time tomorrow kiddies.

Ladies Day – April 30th – Put it in Your Diary

The date for Waverley’s biggest game day celebration has been set, 30 April 2011 for the Round 4 clash against Petersham. Under the dedicated guidance of the Social Secretary Kirsty Jordan, the Social Committee is putting together what will be the biggest and the best Ladies Day Waverley will have seen.

All are welcome for Ladies Day, whether they be friends or family of past and present members or the opposition members, or friends of friends. Details below – get in quick to secure your free goody bag!

Some Boring Information

For all you nerds out there, last month, Waverley Rugby’s Club website had it’s biggest month on record, and also hit a new one day record.

In the end, we walked away with 6,297 hits, 345 more than the previous record (March 2010), which is an average of 202 visits a day (note this excludes visits by logged in registered users).

The Saturday 26th of March was also our biggest day on record, with 508 hits. The bulk of these visit (246) were people looking for information where to vote in the NSW Sate Election, but most importantly we managed to convert a lot of these visits to stick around for a bit and check out the rest of the website, all improving our exposure throughout the Eastern Suburbs.

Super 15 & Six Nations Tipping Updates

We’re four rounds into the Waverley Rugby Club Super 15 & Six Nations Tipping Comps, so it is time for a wee bit of an update…

Of the 31 players currently participating in the Super 15 Tipping comp, in the lead is Ricardo Cozworth with a relatively large lead courtesy of the best bonus points (and general points) of anyone else in the comp.

Keen to knock Ricardo off his perch, “Bart Mann”… not sure who that is, but they are female, and currently owed a few beers by Karin Christie after her call earlier in the year. Next up… Kirk Galbraith.

2011 Preseason Events

With Round 1 less than 7 weeks away Waverley Rugby Club are continuing hard with preparations for the season ahead.

Pre-Season Training Underway

Preseason training is continuing to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.15pm, on Waverley Oval No.2/3. Deon, Chalky and the rest of the coaches have been impressed with the effort and commitment shown so far.

Numbers have been slightly down on previous seasons but with the touch footy comps due to finish in the next few weeks, Super Rugby starting and a few fresher evenings we’re sure people will start to feel the rugby bug again and head down for training. If your one of those then please make the effort now and get down to training as we look towards a competitive and successful season in Division 3.

Open Night – 4pm February 26th

Only a few weeks away now is the clubs Open Night, to be held at the Bowlo on 26th February at 4pm.

This is a great opportunity for all new and returning members to catch up over a few beers and stand the chance of winning their subscription fees back, 100%.

Win Back your Subs

All members that are fully paid up by Saturday 26th February will be entered into the draw and one lucky person stands the chance to win everything back, this includes all playing, social and student/colt members.

To register Register Online Now.

We will have a few computers at the Bowlo on the day for the last chancers.

Conveniently the Waratahs vs Reds game will be kicking off at 7.30pm too so a good reason to hang around at the Bowlo and support one of our 2011 Sponsors.

Trials & Taki Toa

Moving into March and things start to get a bit more serious on the rugby front. Preseason training will have been underway for over 5 weeks and the coaches will have a good idea of individual players fitness and ability and will start to consider gradings ahead of the preseason trials and the Taki Toa competition, both due to commence on Saturday 12th March.

The Taki Toa competition is a Maori tournament that Waverley has had a great success in over the years, having won the competition 14 times in its 28 year history. On the same day the rest of the club will be trialling away at Briars in the morning and possibly with bus trip down to Rockdale to cheer the guys on in the Taki Toa.

Details of our other trials will be published nearer the time but we currently have healthy competition against our 2010 Division 2 opponents Hornsby and Oatley.

So if your mates, or even yourself are thinking of coming down to play this year, or just holding out for a few more weeks please make the effort now and support the club.

Colts

Are you under 21 and wanna play rugby? Know any under 21’s wanting to play this year? Too old to play Grade Colts?

Waverley Rugby Club are again recruiting for our Colts team, so if your interested or know someone that is then please get in contact with our Colts Co-ordinator, Rennie Mihaka ([email protected], 0404 330 772).

If you would like to Sponsor the Club, or knows someone who might, please contact our sponsorship co-ordinators Nik Buchanan ([email protected]) & Simon Payne ([email protected]).
