Grand Final Details Saturday

Click Here to Book Your Presso TicketWaverley’s Alexander Associates 4th Grade quest for back to back Premierships is here with Waverley taking on fellow sea-side club, Newport, in a battle royale this Saturday.

After a very close Major Semi Final against Newport, which only saw Waverley go through after a Newport dropped a ball in the final moments of the game, where they otherwise would have scored and forced Waverley to play the Elimination Final; this weekend is set to be Waverley’s toughest challenge in two seasons.

Rumour has it, that Newport has been able to bring back many of its strongest players who have been ‘injured’. With Waverley’s squad unchanged and without a full compliment of reserves, Newport may well go into the match as slight favourites.

The reality is, Newport can’t win the Grand Final, only Waverley can lose it for them. After remaining unbeaten in 39 matches, Waverley are expected to win, and expected to win handsomely despite the closeness of the result last time.

Either way, it will be a great game, and you are encouraged to get out and support.

Waverley Golf Day – Sep 18, 2010

Click Here to Book Your Presso TicketLadies and Gentlemen (and I use the term loosely),

Time is upon us again. In conjunction with the Annual Waverley Presentation Dinner, I present to you the 4th Shortt-Brown Golf Tournament. Some say, the Trophy was handed down from Tiger Woods after a massive night snorting Columbian marching powder of hookers t*ts. Others believe it was forged between the butt cheeks of John Daly on a drinking binge. All I can say is this highly sought after trophy has been the subject of much debate, argument and ferocity. Some legends of Waverley Rugby Club say it is more important to win the Shortt-Brown than it is to win the Players Player award (please note that only one person has ever won both).

We will be tearing the North Bondi goat track apart again this year with the overall winning team (chosen at random) taking the Shortt-Brown Trophy home with them (or at least to Presso where it will get lost again…). This year will also see some other awards handed out to other worthy members – details to come soon.

The costs/fees are:

Green Fees = $20
Club Hire = $20
Electric Cart = $27.50
Trolley Hire = $5
Beer kitty = $20

Date: 18th September

Time: be there for 12:30pm for the draw, first tee at 1pm
Where: North Bondi Golf club
Contact: [email protected]
RSVP: Monday 13 Sep 2010 – places are strictly limited. First in first serve.

If you have not voted for your 2010, Players Player, please do so now. Voting closes Monday Night.

The voting is still incredibly close.

If you haven’t voted do so now!!!

The annual Player’s Player award is one of the most important awards that is presented at Waverley each year.

Overall, it is presented to the rugby club player who has made a positive impact on the voter.

The criteria is really up to you, but you should consider; on-field rugby ability, off-field behaviour, involvement over the entire season etc.

This person should have made a constructive influence towards the club, its members and, ultimately, to your playing experience at Waverley.

You can select a player from your grade, or any other grade in the club, including Colts.

Note there is a separate award for both the Men and Women. Only players in the women’s team can vote for the Women’s Player’s Player and vice versa.

To vote, follow the links above.

You may only vote once. If you have already completed a vote, please ignore this article.

2011 What Will it Bring?

Congratulations to Waverley’s 4th Grade, for making their second consecutive finals berth. While the weekend’s 14 to 12 point victory over Newport marked Waverley’s 39th win in a row, it was also the closest result in the last two seasons.

After the dominant display the last two years, Waverley is confident it will still be a shoe in come Saturday week, but is relishing a potentially tight finish; something missing the last two years.

At the same time, the winner of the Preliminary Final this weekend will take some heart from the closeness of the result, as they know Waves are beatable if the stars align.

The Flying Fifths have also tentatively finished their season for the year, with a 14 – 12 point victory over Petersham at home. It was another good result by Waverley’s social heart, and if it wasn’t for a rough middle part of the season, Waves could well have taken its maiden Halligan Cup title.

Tentative finish? After a few beers on Saturday a few of the boys expressed interest in one final game. We’re looking for some more oppo, but it is unlikely at this stage. Read More→
