2011 Annual Report

The 2011 AGM also saw the presentation of the 2011 Annual Report.

You are encouraged to have a read, as it will give you an insight into how much work goes into running of the Club, as well as allowing our beloved leaders to reflect in the year that was.

The highlight (at least in terms of the content of the report) has to be the reporting of a profit! This is largely off the back of a great year of takings through the Canteen; thanks to Kirsty, Gemma and Kate for a fantastic effort.

Status of New Pavilion

Council advised Rob Willoughby on Friday that the final assessment of our tender for the use of the new Pavilion in 2012 has been pushed back to December. Based on that conversation we we remain confident in securing a permanent licence agreement, which should mean a great year to come. Imagine life out of the temporary facilities, and able to sit back in the best grand stand in Subbies Rugby!

Stay tuned for details.

* Secretary & Social Secretary Positions to be Filled

Unfortunately there were no nominations for the role of Secretary or Social Secretary. These are important positions for the successful running of the Club.

If you are interested in accepting one of these positions, or no someone who is, please get in touch with our President, Rob Willougbhy on 0411149637.

If you’re worried you don’t have the time to commit fully, don’t worry, the roles can be shared amongst the committee (they are going to have to do that anyway).

Other Volunteers Needed

If you can’t help out on the Committee, but can help out in other roles (eg photography, videography, website, canteen, equipment or some other random skill), please get in touch with Rob (0411 149 637), or someone else on the Committee.

Bring on 2012.

Special Service to the Club

Coaching and Managing

Andy has been involved in the coaching setup from 2007 – 2010 coaching & managing 3rd Grade whilst also maintaining the Captaincy.

Financial Support
Andy’s first venture into the administration side of the club was in 2003 when he was the main sponsorship organiser of the Club. He then went on to do this for 5 consecutive seasons.

Committee Member
As Club Captain, Andy has been involved with the Management Committee from 2008-2010 for 3 consecutive seasons.

General commitment to the club
It’s clear to see from Andy’s laying resume that he’s been a staunch support of Waverley Rugby Club over the past 11 seasons. In only 4 out 11seasons at the club has he opted to be a player only. In every other season Andy has been involved with either the coaching or administration side of the club and this in my opinion should be recognised.

On a personal note – I remember as a new player to the club, Andy was the first person to come up and shake my hand as he has done with many, many others. When I think of Waverley Ruby Club, I think of Andy Collingridge. I hope he continues to play for Waverley for as long as possible.

Kind Regards,

Rob Willoughby
President 2011 – 2012

VOTE: CLUB CAPTAIN & COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Waverley Rugby’s elected Club Captain, Josh Lose has sadly decided to leave Rugby Union and play Rugby League. Leigh Draper has also decided to step down from the Rugby Commitee as a member this week but will continue to play for the club. We’d like to thank Leigh for his hard work over the off season and remind him to get the beers in first game of the season.

So this means that there will be a REVOTE!!!

Next Thursday, March 31st after training – Those who would like to either vote, nominate or put themselves forward for either Club Captain or as a Committee member are invited to do so. Anyone can apply for either role and those that would like to help out with the committee would be much appreciated as there it still lots to do!

If you’re interested make yourself known to James McMillan (aka Sneakers) or one of the coaches at training.

Get down!

Annual Report and 2011 Committee

Further to Saturday’s announcement, the 2010 Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been held, and congratulations must go to the following people who have been elected for the 2011 Committee.

President - James “Sneakers” McMillan
Senior Vice President – Nik “Spud” Buchanan
Senior Vice President – Bob Burgess
Club Captain – Josh Lose
Secretary - (No nominees – position to be filled – See below for more information)
Treasurer - Jerome Wood
Social Secretary – Kirsty Jordan
Management Committee -Leigh Draper
Management Committee – Rennie Mihaka
Management Committee – Emily Walpole

Full of new blood, the new Committee is set to make 2011 one of the best yet, bringing new ideas, new levels of enthusiasm.

With so many new faces on the Committee, everyone will be trying to get up to speed as quick as possible. Importantly, most of the retiring members of the 2010 Committee have promised their assistance in ensuring a smooth hand over, and providing input, where requested, throughout the season.

Most importantly, it was the biggest turn out we’ve had at an AGM in a long time (far eclipsing last years impressive numbers, with Two Life Members in attendance, Ray Eardley and Dennis Beaver in attendance.

Like last year, it was also great to see so many nominations for all Committee roles, with votes needed to decide most positions.

Secretary’s Role to be Filled

Unfortunately there were no nominees for the Secretary’s position. For the moment, this means the role will be left vacant, with the other Committee Members to cover that function in the interim.

The role of Secretary, is an important one for the Club. As the interface between other Clubs, Subbies, Council, and the membership in general, it is critical that this role be filled.

If you know anyone who would be interested in the role, please get them to contact someone on the new Committee. Once the new Committee has settled in, they will consider exactly how to progress this item, but it probably will be a Special General Meeting to vote on a potential candidate, or they will hold an Initial General Meeting at the start of the new season. Stay tuned for details.

This is your chance to have your say.

- To receive and consider the Reports of the Committee (including Treasurer’s Report)
- To elect the Club Officials for the 2011 Season
- Receive any business duly advised prior to the AGM

All current Committee positions will be declared vacant. The following roles will be voted on, in the following order:

- President
- Senior Vice President
- Senior Vice President

After the AGM is closed, we’ll also have a general discussion about which direction people want to take the club. This will be a great starting block for the 2011 Committee.

A copy of the Club’s Constitution is included below (please note the By-Laws are not current)

Current Committee Intentions

As per Monday’s news item, nearly everyone currently serving on the Committee have indicated they will not be seeking re-election for 2011.

Heading into our 40th year, the make up of the Committee will be particularly important. To limit the impact of a complete turn over on the Committee, the existing Committee have committed to ensuring as smooth as transition as possible, and to help out as much as they are able to throughout the year.

Volunteers

If you do not want to commit to a Committee role, why not become a volunteer for the club?

This year, we’ll particularly need a dedicated group of people for the Social Committee. Working with the Social Secretary, you will help put on an array of events throughout the year, including:

- Open Night (held in February to welcome new members)
- Ladies Day
- Family Day
- Back to Waverley Day (the Old Boys Day)
- Presentation Night
- 40th Anniversary Dinner (and associated celebrations)
- Other events (Trivia Nights, theme nights, whatever takes your fancy).
- Golf Day

You don’t necessarily need to commit to helping run all of these. Maybe, just take responsibility for running an event or two.

There are also a heap of other things needing doing around the club. See some suggestions here.

AGM Time and Location

Sponsors Wanted

2011 will be a massive year for the club given the 40th Anniversary celebrations, meaning Waverley is able to offer potential sponsors more than we already can. So if you’re interested in Sponsoring, know someone who may be, or can help out chasing sponsors, please get in contact with The Secretary to discuss.

Sponsorship discussions are already well progressed with a number of organisations, and your assistance will be further icing on the cake.
