Further to yesterday’s news item about rule changes, here’s a good article by Spiro Zavos on the Sydney Morning Herald (Rugby Heaven) Website.
“Instead of the defending sides having most of the rights to the tackled ball, the new interpretation goes back to the basic law, requiring the tackler to release his grasp on the attacker and for all defenders near the ball to roll away if they are impeding the ball coming back in the ruck.
The scrum procedures are now slowed down and the protocol of ”crouch, touch, pause, engage” must be followed rigorously.
The offside laws applying to kicks and players positioning themselves in defence at rucks and mauls are to be strictly enforced.”
Strictly speaking the above isn’t anything to do with Law Changes, just interpretations of them. While the ELV’s failed to lead to entertaining running rugby, on the form of Round 1 Matches from the Super 14, Fitness will again be critical for determining Waverley’s success this season.

There is a heap of stuff happening on the Green and Gold Rugby Blog too. Check it out.
We’re hoping to get some more technical discussion throughout the year, in order to better articulate the laws of the game and to give us our best chance come match day. Stay tuned for details.
