All teams on the Road

Some go North. Others go West. All teams are away this weekend, and we need everyone available if previous weeks are anything to go by.

The round sees Waverley’s Div Two teams away to St Ives at St Ives, the Flying Fifths away to Macquarie Uni and the Women away to Merrylands.

With just six games remaining in the 2010 season, the next four weeks will make or break Waverley’s other finals hope, The Palace 2nd Grade. With Deon Smith’s men, playing four of the five teams above them, they need wins (plus some bonus points will help too). Waverley currently sit in 6th on 27 points (and 12 games), with Hunters Hill (45), St Ives (40), BOBs (36), Kings (33) and Newport (29) all above them. Of those only BOBs is on twelve games. The good news is that Hunters Hill needs to play a catch up game against Newport and St Ives a game against Kings, so if the matches go according to the competition table, Waverley is right in the thick of things.

Divisional Championship Status

2nd Grades form are also imperative to Waverley staying in Division Two in 2011. Yes, wins in 1st Grade have the greatest influence on our position in the Divisional Championship, but after that it is 2nd Grade that is most important. As highlighted below, it is Waverley’s performance in 2nd Grade that is keeping us in the mix.

As Highlighted previously, Divisional Championship Points are awarded on the following multiples of Grade Championship Points. Waverley currently sits 9th on 911 points, compared with Hornsby’s 812 points.

Grade Position Grade Points Multiple Championship Points
1st Grade 9th 11 x22 242
2nd Grade 6th 27 x12 342
3rd Grade 10th 10 x6 60
Colts 7th 19 x6 114
4th Grade 1st 57 x3 171
Total 911

The above table highlights the important role the higher grades have played in recent weeks with the wins and bonus points keeping us out of the danger zone. In order to stay up, this will need to continue in coming weeks.

The above also highlights the important role that 4th Grade plays. While not contributing a great deal of Championship points (despite remaining unbeaten, and having secured 9 bonus points), 4th Grades contribution is helping us tread water over Hornsby.

The moral of the story? We need every grade doing their best week in week out, even if it is only to secure a bonus point or two, as these are what will see us stay up in Division Two in 2011.

Match Previews

We’ve covered The Palace 2nd Grade, so here is a selection of the others.

The Palace 1st Grade

This is a VERY important clash for Waverley. A straight win here will see Waverley on level points with St Ives and a bonus point win will see us move up the table a notch into 8th.

Last time the two teams met, St Ives walked away with a narrow 23 to 20 point win over Waverley. Since then St Ives have only managed one win (over Hornsby), with Waverley recording wins over Hornsby and Newport, and recording a narrow defeat to UNSW.

It’s an even money bet who will walk away with the spoils.

NSW Famers Women

It is another tough ask for the women this weekend, talking on Merrylands (or the Old Parramatta), one of the strongest clubs in the competition. Merrylands are currently in 3rd place on the table, with Waverley in 6th, but Waverley is confident it can pick up an upset win, after Merrylands form has slumped in recent weeks.

Cardsmart Consulting Colts

After recording a solid win over UNSW last weekend, Waverley’s Young Guns have a tough ask against 3rd place Colts this weekend.

With their finals hopes, pretty much dashed, Waverley is now playing for pride and playing to build for the 2011 season.

St Ives took the spoils last time around.

3rd Grade

While it has been a forgettable season for Waverley’s 3rd Grade, there is plenty of chance for the lads to redeem themselves and potentially move out of last place.

First step is against 8th placed St Ives this weekend. Just five points ahead of Waverley, a win here, plus a win against Newport in coming weeks, would see Waverley with a fantastic chance of moving up the ladder and into 8th spot.

It will be a tough ask though, after being on the end of some 30 to something results over preceeding weeks.

JCB Communications Vs Aquilla Plumbing Flying Fifths

This weekends round looks like a cracker for Waverley’s Halligan Cup Boys, with 5th placed Waverley (23 points), taking on 7th placed Mac Uni (22 points).

It is the first time the two clubs have met this season, but after some great tussles last year (where Waverley tended to walk away victors), more is expected again this weekend.

Alexander Associates 4th Grade

Round 13 is a top versus bottom of the table clash. Waverley should win, but ‘the boyz’ are smart enough not to take anything for granted.
