Flatliners… Waverley Goes to the Movies

Ok, we didn’t go to the movies, but Waverley’s weekend results certainly resembled that of a dramatic movie. You know the drill, the lead actor is being rushed into hospital with a mortal wound. Still alive, they are whacked on the EKG machine, to see a couple of beeps, only to flatline shortly afterwards.

The beeps of life for Waverley were the opening games, with Colts and 4th Grade both recording wins against Briars, only to be followed by looses in 5th Grade, Women, 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade & 1st Grade. Flatline…

The results from the weekend were as follows:

The results were largely to form, but were particularly disappointing for JCB Plumbing & Aquilla Plumbing Flying Fifths and The Palace 2nd Grade, as both matches were critical to their Premiership hopes. The results leave Flying Fifths with a difficult task of catching Colleagues, especially if the two sides don’t meet again. Waverley sits 14 points off 1st place in 5th place in the Halligan Cup (remember the Halligan structure is 1st past the post). Similarly 2nd Grade are now 7 points (and one game ahead) out side of the top four, and have some work to do in coming weeks.

Overall it was a frustrating day for the club, and not just because of the results. With 1mm of rain since Wednesday, Council decided that that was far too much rain and closed the main oval. On inspection the ground was perfect, especially when combined with the sunny skies and windy conditions drying what little moisture was on the pitch.

The weekend marks two weeks on the road for the rest of the club, starting with a short hop to UNSW for the men (including the Flying Fifths) and at home for the women. The men back up the weekend with a longer road trip to St Ives, which are then followed by two weeks at home (Hunters Hill and Kings (including Ladies Day)) and then a weekend off.

Waverley Ski Weekend

On the Wet Weather Weekend scheduled for July 31, Andy Collingridge is organising the 4th Annual Waverley Ski Trip. Everyone is invited, but places (as organised by Andy), are strictly limited. That said, if you miss out on one of the select 12 positions, please feel free to organise your own accommodation and transport. Just liaise with Andy about ways to catch up. Ladies Day

Put it in your diaries, Ladies Day is set for July 24th. Full details will be posted soon, but organise your female friends and family to come down for the day.
