The Netball Tournament is a key component of the Taki Toa, special thanks Donna Te Kanawa (Tena Koutou), for providing this report on the Netball.

Ambassador: Courtney Tairi (NSW Swifts) thank you to my niece, who allowed us to utilise her profile to promote this event. She enjoys giving back to the community and supporting the younger generations’ of developing netballers.
Gift: Taki Toa top for her.

Injuries: One request for bandaid and Northlake’s player with a semi sprained wrist, treated by Doctor Richard Janus.

Medical Aid: Thank you to my family doctor, Richard Janus (Kiwi) and nurse, his partner Kim Raven (English) for their voluntary time as the medical team. Treated rugby player for a collarbone fracture and sent to hospital, no other incidents reported.

New Zealand Navy Te Mana: Crew from this frigate submitted a Netball Team under Waverley’s banner, lost all 5 games in division 1 however thoroughly enjoyed the day. They had to return to the ship for “happy hour” and headed back to the “after party” with 20 extra crew members later that evening.

Photo display: Junior players from various associations and
2009 Taki Toa team photos.

Trophy: Inaugural 2nd division was introduced onto this years programme, a huge success. I saw mokos (grandchildren) 14 year olds playing, whose grandmothers played in this same event in the early –mid eighties.
I donated the 2nd division trophy.

Volunteers: Thank you to my dedicated runners, and umpires whom I called several weeks pre event to assist me. Some games had 1 umpire however teams were very receptive regarding this issue. I bought party whistles from the $2 shop as spares for umpires – had 2 left end of the day.

Congratulations to “Team Taki Toa” committee members, besides Beaver whom I’ve know for several decades, Sharron, Anita, Liana, Josh and Deon were all new to me. We encountered interesting obstacles to deal with however in saying that, those obstacles form the foundations of ensuring all aspects of a event is covered for a smooth day.

The kaupapa remains strong!! Kia Kaha!!

2010 WINNERS

See you next year!!!
