Waverley offers new members a chance to join one of Sydney’s best social rugby clubs, right in the heart of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

Located just 5mins up the road from the world famous Bondi Beach, there are not many Clubs in the world where you can play a hard game of ruggers, head down to the beach for a quick recovery swim (without freezing to death – see details of average winter weather ), before heading back to the club for a few social drinks with your mates.

We field 5+ senior men’s teams, Colts (under 21) and Women’s; meaning we have the right team for you.

1st Grade and 2nd Grade play at a very high standard, cascading down to 5th and 6th Grade, which are much more social by nature, and are the perfect teams for those who haven’t played in awhile, just want to take things easy, or who have never played before.

At Waverley, we believe what happens off the pitch is just as important as what happens on it. You will find a great social atmosphere with a heap of great events throughout the year, but most importantly make life long friends.

We aim to make everyone feel welcome, especially given our location in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs (common landing point for people new to Sydney) means we enjoy a relatively large number of new members each year.

Waverley plays in Division Three of the NSW Suburban Rugby (Subbies) Competition, the 3rd tier of Club Competition in Sydney.

Travellers / Visitors

Only in Sydney for a short while? Want to play rugby in Australia? Want to get some games under your belt? No worries! Waverley is very accommodating of travellers and other visitors who aren’t able to commit to a full season.

Short term members are welcome at any stage of the year, beginning or end of season, the depths of Sydney’s Winter Sydney’s Winter, or even two or more stints if you want to go travelling up the coast before heading off home. You won’t be the first, and certainly not the last. So you may as well see what we have to offer.

Netball

2010 sees the return of Netball to Waverley’s suite of sporting teams. The details are still being finalised, so stay tuned to the News pages. Why Netball? Well the official name of Waverley is Waverley Rugby Football & Sporting Club Inc. So after an absence of a number of years, Netball is being added back to the club. Hopefully a few more sports will be added over coming seasons. So why not put your hand up to organise?

Subbies Rugby

Waverley currently plays in Division Three of the NSW Suburban Rugby Competition, otherwise known as Subbies.  The comp has Six Divisions, and works on a promotion and relegation system.  The main difference between the divisions is the number of teams each club must field.  The 1st Grade side in each division are generally competitive with other divisions.

But what happens on the field is just one part of Waverley.  Our club is characterised with a great social atmosphere, welcoming of new members.  Being so close to Bondi Beach, we get a lot of travellers through the club each year, so even if you’re only here for a few months, please do not hesitate to come down to the club, and have a bit of a run.
