Congratulations to Waverley’s 4th Grade, for making their second consecutive finals berth. While the weekend’s 14 to 12 point victory over Newport marked Waverley’s 39th win in a row, it was also the closest result in the last two seasons.

After the dominant display the last two years, Waverley is confident it will still be a shoe in come Saturday week, but is relishing a potentially tight finish; something missing the last two years.

At the same time, the winner of the Preliminary Final this weekend will take some heart from the closeness of the result, as they know Waves are beatable if the stars align.

The Flying Fifths have also tentatively finished their season for the year, with a 14 – 12 point victory over Petersham at home. It was another good result by Waverley’s social heart, and if it wasn’t for a rough middle part of the season, Waves could well have taken its maiden Halligan Cup title.

Tentative finish? After a few beers on Saturday a few of the boys expressed interest in one final game. We’re looking for some more oppo, but it is unlikely at this stage.

2010 Almost at an End

After all the rugby ends, the 2010 Presentation Night is just around the corner.

Ticket sales are open and are closing very soon.

Presso, is Waverley’s night of nights, and is one of the highlights of the year. It is wear we celebrate the success (or otherwise) of the season, all over a few drinks, a bit of a feed, and some dodgy dancing.

This year, Waverley is heading to the newly refurbished Easts Bondi Junction function room.

It’s a cracker of a location, and it will be a fantastic night. If you haven’t as yet bought your ticket, get your mates and partners together and head to presso.waverleyrugby.com.au to buy your ticket.

Players Player Voting

Don’t forget to vote for the 2010 Players Player. This year the voting is VERY close. In a repeat of the Federal Election result, currently three people share the lead in both the men’s and women’s vote count.

While voting numbers aren’t suffering from the Mark Latham effect, there being strong voting to date, it is likely that just one or two votes might decide the overall victors.

Head to the voting page here to have your say.

Waverley Turns 40 in 2011

2011 marks the 40th Anniversary of Waverley Rugby Club, and will be a critical year in the future of the club.

From very humble beginnings in 2011, Waverley quickly grew to be one of the premium rugby clubs in Subbies Rugby. Next year, we will get to celebrate that fact, and reminisce on those magic 40 years, but more importantly help set the direction for the next 40 years.

The first step in this process is to leave feedback on the 2010 season, as part of the 2010 Players Survey.

Your feedback is invaluable, and will help the 2011 committee make Waverley better.

Just head to the survey page here.

Committee Intentions

A quick poll of the current Committees intentions is showing that virtually everyone currently serving will not be seeking re-election next year, and it is more than likely that all 10 positions will not have the incumbent seeking re-election, even for another role.

After being fairly stable the last four years with a good mix of new and returning members, this will be a massive change for the management of the club.

While the date for the AGM has yet to be set, it is likely to be mid to late October. So if you’re interested in running for the Committee or know some one who is, please contact myself to discuss.

Notice for the AGM will be posted shortly.

2011 Volunteers

With 2011 being our 40th Anniversary, there will be a lot of extra tasks that will need doing, and we will need as many people as possible to assist with the running of the club, especially with respect to organising the 2011 40th Anniversary celebratory dinner.

We’ll likely need people who were involved in the club across the years, to try and get together tables from each 5 or 10 year period, plus build on our database of former members with a view to awarded Waverley’s best team of the last 40 years, or something like that…

If you can help, please ring The Secretary. While the new Committee will not have been appointed, there are plenty of things we can start to get underway as we speak.

Coaching Advertisement

Shortly we’ll be posting an advert for 2011 Coaches and Managers. We’ll be closing the applications after the AGM, with the decision to be made by the incoming committee.

Stay tuned for details.
