Bus Trips Galore & Directions

This weekend is the last Round of the season for the Div 2 teams, with the women playing the minor Premiers in the first Semi Final, with both groups having bus trips, with the Men going North to Hornsby, and the Women going West to Penrith.

With numbers confirmed for the trip to Hornsby, the Flying Fifths are staying at home (and playing on the main oval), taking on last years Premiers Mosman.

Some Motivation

It’s a bit of a Cliche… but…

Thanks Mr Finch for the suggestion.

We are only having one bus this time, with the Colts making there own way up. The bus will be coming back after 1st Grade, so it will be a mighty fun trip. With great weather forecast, it will be an absolute cracker of a day.

Players Player Voting & 2010 Player Survey

If you haven’t already, please ensure that you vote for the 2010 Players Player, and fill in the Players Survey.

Player’s Player

The annual Player’s Player award is one of the most important awards that is presented at Waverley each year.

Overall, it is presented to the rugby club player who has made a positive impact on the voter.
The criteria is really up to you, but you should consider; on-field rugby ability, off-field behaviour, involvement over the entire season etc.

This person should have made a constructive influence towards the club, its members and, ultimately, to your playing experience at Waverley.

You can select a player from your grade, or any other grade in the club, including Colts.

Players Survey

Waverley Rugby Club is always looking to improve, and we can’t do that without your feedback. Short of stepping up and running for the Committee or a Coaching Position, this is your opportunity to help make Waverley Rugby Club the great club that it should be.

Match Previews

Saturday marks a massive round for Waverley across all games. For the girls, a win will take them through to an unlikely Grand Final.

For the Flying Fifths a win will, in part, avenge their 2009 Grand Final loss to Mosman, and give them some hope of finishing the season in either 3rd or 4th.

For the remainder of the club, the weekend is all about which Division we’ll be playing our 40th Anniversary in. To see the scernarios, it’s best that you read Monday’s post.

NSW Farmers Women

After a slow start to the season, Waverley’s women’s team is on song, playing the best footy we’ve played in a number of season. Sydney Uni go into the final as hot favourites, but it certainly won’t be a one sided affair, with Waves a chance to cause an upset victory.

Key to the outcome could well be the Students mindset. Waves will go into the match expecting nothing, but hoping for everything. The risk for Sydney Uni is if they go into the match thinking they’ve already booked there berth in next weeks final.

This will be a cracker of a game.

JCB Communications & Aquilla Plumbing Flying Fifths

After knocking over this years top team on the weekend, and playing this weeks match on the hallowed turf of the #1 Waverley Oval, Waves go into the match against Mosman full of confidence.

Always good encounters, played in the spirit of rugby, it is no doubt set for a classic encounter. I’m tipping Waves to win.

The Palace 1st Grade

The match of the round for Waverley’s Div two teams, is definitely in 1st Grade. Courtesy of the points differential between Waverley and Hornsby in the Divisional Table, the winner of this game will decide who stays in Division Two, and who goes down.

All that separates the two sides is one measly competition point. Both teams are on two wins, with Hornsby also taking a draw, but with Waverley on one extra bonus point.

Last time the two sides met in Round 9, Waverley was the victor with a narrow 23 – 21 point victory. In the road, it will be a very very tough ask. In the end, the winner will probably be who wants it more.

Better yet, this match will also decide who finishes the Barraclough Cup in the wooden spoon.

For those you think we should go down, I’ll say this. Div 3 means more bigger / longer road trips… Should that not be reason enough to push for a win?

The Palace 2nd Grade

Going on form, Waverley goes into this match as favourites, with four more wins than Hornsby. That said, Hornsby did manage to beat Kings (1 place above us) last weekend.

This is another must win match for us, and depending on what happens during this game, we’ll know just how much 1st Grade is fighting for.

3rd Grade

It hasn’t been the best season for Waverley’s Blunt Cup contenders, with the boys already having secured the wooden spoon for the year.

This weekends opponents will be a hunting a big victory. Currently 5 points behind 1st, a bonus point win for Hornsby will see them with some chance of stealing the Minor Premiership (provided BOBs lose). As tempting as it is to throw the game on that basis, we need all the points we can get this weekend.

Alexander Associates 4th Grade

This is another must win match for the club. Undefeated in 37 matches, Waverley remains favourites, against 7th places Hornsby.

Cardsmart Consulting Colts

This will be another tough match for Waverley. Hornsby currently sit in 3rd position, and have a chance of securing a double chance at a finals berth should they win with a bonus point, and the result in the Newport / UNSW match goes there way.

With numbers being very light recently, we just need the boys to pull through one game, otherwise all of the above will be for nothing if our Colts forfeit. Come on boys!!!!!
