Waverley Rugby Secures Pavilion for 2012 and Beyond

Waverley Rugby Club is pleased to announce that is has secured its tenure for the use of the new Waverley Pavilion for the 2012 Season and beyond.

This is fantastic news for the Club!

Some highlights of the new Pavilion are:

- Our Own Clubrooms
- Access to pitchside function room
- Dedicated Canteen Space
- Undercover seating for 200+
- Seating on terraced artificial grass
- Potential access to new multipurpose indoor sports centre

What does this mean?

We’ll be able to improve how we operate in 2012, and will no longer be solely reliant on off-site clubrooms. So potentially, when it is bucketing down with rain, we’ll be able to use the clubrooms (and even undercover grandstand, for whiteboard sessions, team planning, whatever!!!!

Oh, and we’ll also have best grand stand (and ground) in Subbies Rugby.

Given we’ve played here since 1988 it is fantastic to see our link with the ground continue into the future.

1st Home Game of 2012

Plans are away to make the first home game of 2012 a celebration of this and invite everyone to come take a tour – keep 14/04/2012 & 21/04/2012 free in your diaries, more details to follow.

Thanks

Special thanks must go to Stuart Allen who literally spent hours putting together a 50 page application together for the tender. If you could all join me in saying a special thankyou to Stu.

At the weekend, our President, Rob Willoughby, presented the Wallabies Jersey to biggest supporter of the Rugby World Cup – women’s second rower, Merrin Tulloch who stems from Scotland. Well done to Merrin and the girls who got down the Robin Hood for most of the games and helped support the club for the coming season.

SBS to Broadcast Wallabies Vs Wales Test – December 3 2011

If, like me, you’re wondering who the hell is broadcasting the Wallabies / Wales Autumn International, look no further than… SBS!

Go figure!

The 3 December 2011 Test match will be broadcast live on SBS from 1.15am on 4 December 2011 (AESST).

It looks like this weekends Barbarians test match will only be broadcast on Foxtel at this point. Boo.

This, from SBS’s announcement on their website.

SBS has secured the rights to broadcast the upcoming rugby international between Australia and Wales live from Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Wales showed great form in the Rugby World Cup and the game will be a rematch of the Wallabies 21-18 win over the Welsh for third place in the tournament.

Michael Tomalaris will host SBS’s coverage of the match, which forms part of the Wallabies northern hemisphere spring tour.

SBS welcomed the opportunity to broadcast the game, the network’s head of sport, Ken Shipp said.

“It’s not every day that we get the chance to broadcast international level rugby union on
SBS,” he said.

“I’m glad that we are able to provide free-to-air coverage of this match as a service to all rugby fans.”

The Wallabies are ranked number two in the IRB World Rankings and have won their last three clashes with Wales.

The James Bevan Trophy rugby test between Wales and the Wallabies will be shown live at 1:15am (AEDT) Sunday, December 4, on SBS ONE.

Website Help Wanted

The Waverley website, while a significant improvement over our previous offering is in need of a little bit of maintenance, but also needs some more regular attention / posts, so here is a bit of a call out for help.

HELP!!!

Ok, that was pretty poor effort at calling for help, but you get the gist.

If you’re able to help out here and there, in order to get the website back ticking along, please contact the default lackeys, Mark Ross [email protected], or Rob Willoughby ([email protected]

Basically we need some people to try and help put up content (details of games, match reviews, whatever) as well as make sure all the content is up to date (eg Committee Contacts etc).

So if you’re a website guru, or able to cut and paste word articles, please get in touch.

Waverley Rugby Club – Monthly Luncheon (TODAY)

Just a quick reminder that the monthly Waverley Rugby Club luncheon is on again today. It’s an open invite to anyone associated with Waverley Rugby (be that past or present member, supporter, future member etc etc).

Head down to The Rugby Club (31 Pitt St, Sydney – note head down Crane Pl) from 1pm.

Waverley Rugby Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month, generally at the World Cup Bar.

For those of you who have not been to The Rugby Club before, it was formed in 1943 as a city base for all rugby players and lovers of the game. It was originally the HQ of the NSW Rugby Union and later the ARU and was where Wallaby touring teams were farewelled from and where jerseys were presented. The Rugby Club has played a significant role in the consolidation of the game of rugby and in spreading and strengthening the influence of the game throughout Australia.

Today, it is a licensed Club, where all Wallabies and Waratahs have membership and with a history and collection of memorabilia almost unmatched anywhere in the World.

With over 2,000 members, it is now a meeting place for all rugby people and has earned its place as “The Home of The True Spirit Of Rugby”. The Club has four floors: A ground floor “World Cup” bar with memorabilia, large plasma screens and al fresco gaming; The first floor “Waratah Room” is a bistro and function room that can seat 120 for lunch, whist the 2nd floor “Wallaby Dining Room” seats 100; The 3rd floor “Barbarian room” is the boardroom, museum and private members bar.
